About the Project

East Central Florida History is a personal project created by a Volusia County Native with a deep interest in the history of the place I call home. I have always found this area's history fascinating. There are the major events and well-known landmarks, but the everyday places, businesses, neighborhoods, and stories are what really make our community unique.

Volusia County and the surrounding area are changing rapidly. New development is constant. When a longtime staple in the community is closed, it is quickly demolished or renovated with very little left to show what was once there. This project is my attempt to preserve as much of that history as possible before it is forgotten.

I'm still young, but one day I hope to be the old guy who remembers what used to be where, how the towns around here changed, and the stories behind places that newer generations may never have known. My goal is to start compiling that research now. At its core, this project is also a personal archive. It doesn't hurt that this project combines my passion of history and my career in technology. If this happens to look good on my résumé someday, even better! I want a place where I can record what I learn, organize it, come back to it years later, and remember how this area used to look and feel. But I also feel that kind of information is more valuable when it is shared. By keeping this wiki public, I hope it can become a useful resource not only for me, but for anyone else who is curious about the history of East Central Florida.
